Dungiven teenager Eoghan Quigg’s bid to win the X Factor final this Saturday has seen the first and deputy first ministers join forces to rally voters. First minister Mr Robinson said: “Reaching the final of the X Factor is a tremendous achievement for anyone, not least someone as young as Eoghan.

“I wish him all the best and would encourage everyone here to lift their phones and vote for him.” Mr McGuinness, the deputy first minister, echoed Mr Robinson’s support for the schoolboy.

“It is not often you would find the first minister and I canvassing for the same candidate, but Eoghan deserves the support of us all in his continued bid for stardom.

“I wish him well on Saturday, but whatever the result, he has already done us proud,” he said.

Eoghan, 16, who is studying for his GCSEs at St Patrick’s College in Dungiven, sobbed last Saturday when he was told he was through to the final.

Eoghan will battle it out with Alexandra Burke and boy band JSL in the ITV1 show’s final this coming saturday.
