Eyelash extensions can tie your entire look together while being low-maintenance. They are a practical and beautiful addition that you should consider if you want to spoil yourself and look dazzling 24/7. Thinking about getting them done? Here is everything you should know before proceeding further.

Top 7 Things That You Need To Know About Lash Extensions

1. Semi-Permanent Solution

Extensions can last from 2-4 weeks, and they are semi-permanent. This means that they need to be applied by a certified esthetician, and that you can’t achieve them on your own. A certified lash esthetician will apply one extension per your natural lash with the help of tweezers and an adhesive. If you are someone who is not afraid of commitments, you should get them done.

2. Time Consuming

The process itself is a bit time-consuming. For instance, most estheticians will do your entire set in 2 hours. Make sure your schedule for the rest of the day is not as busy, and that you let the adhesive to set. Even after the 2-hour application process, your eyes will need to adjust and you will want to take it easy with your makeup or touching up of the face.

3. Say No To Makeup or Heat

Makeup, water, high temperatures and facials are a big no. You should avoid touching your face since the glue needs to set. Make sure you avoid these elements during the first 24 hours, after that, you can apply anything on top beside mascara (since it can rip out your extensions).

4. Refill

Usually, extensions can last for 2-4 weeks, but you have to do your refills. Women typically do the refills every 3 weeks. Luckily, refills are almost always a lot cheaper than the original appliance itself because the esthetician won’t need as much material as in the first place.

5. Remove Your Makeup Properly

Once you get your wanted lash extensions, know that your beauty routine may change a bit. For instance, you should avoid oil-based products (makeup removers, wipes etc) since these can weaken the glue. Also, try not to tug, rub, or play with your eyelids or extensions since you might make them fall out sooner than expected. You should remove your makeup with a cloth and lukewarm water.

6. Lashes Do Shed

Shedding of the lashes happens every 2-4 weeks. This means that your natural lashes tend to fall out along with the extensions. Don’t be freaked out once this starts happening and when you start noticing a gap in between your extensions. The difference may be quite noticeable, so make sure you get them refilled as soon as possible.

7. How Long Will They Last?

Last, but certainly not least, your extensions have a certain lifespan. For instance, if you wish to remove them know that there are 2 options:

  1. They can naturally fall out – but you will have to be patient even up to 6 weeks before the entire set falls out
  2. You can refill them at a lash spa, or ask the esthetician to remove them

Just make sure you don’t remove them on your own, and don’t tug the eyelid. You might lose your natural lashes if you pull them.
