Nordgreen – the sustainable watch brand: We review

It’s not easy trying to find a vegan watch. Quite often I like the style of the watch but it has a leather strap. But I’ve finally found one from a sustainable watch brand I love.

It’s a Scandinavian minimalist watch designed by Jakob Wagner for Nordgreen. With over 20 years’ experience in timepiece design for companies including Bang & Olufsen, Hay and Muuto, he’s now come up with a perfect collection of watches: elegant, simple, minimalistic and timeless.

But the best thing about the brand is how the functionality and look of their watches suits every occasion.

My Philosopher vegan watch

After a long peruse of the website, I decided to go for the minimalist Philosopher Nylon Boheme (£154).

There were two dial sizes available in the Philosopher range but I opted for 36” as while I like a big face I have little wrists and I do wear the strap quite tight.

I went for the olive green strap as it looked – and is – incredibly comfy to wear – no pinching of skin between metal links or rubbing from tight wristbands. There are also inter-changeable straps available, allowing you to customise your Philosopher to every style.

I love the basic yet classy design with striking silver marks at each five-minute interval, on a crisp white dial. The conical-shaped silver case has a wider base than face, creating a sharp two-piece dial that draws the eye to the centre of the timepiece.

Eco-friendly packaging

The one thing I did love was the presentation of my vegan watch, It came in a lovely long box. The cardboard inside it comes from responsibly managed forests and even the felt inside is made from upcycled plastic bottles.

The watch rests on the padded felt base, secured by two elastic bands. This box is the perfect size for gifting, but it’s a little large to keep on your dressing table.

Oh, and did I mention Nordgreen also sent me a 100% branded cotton tote bag, which is fab as I can’t stand plastic bags.

The Danish design watch that keeps giving

One thing I did appreciate, is the brand’s extensive efforts in social responsibilty. By typing my serial number and certificate of authority identification number into the website after my purchase, I was able to pick my favourite cause and make a donation.

Nordgreen does have several partnerships with different good causes including the Water for Good, so that when you purchase a watch, you will give two months of clean water to one person in The Central African Republic. They’re also partnered with Pratham UK, so that when you buy a watch, you will give one month of education to a child in India

Quality men and women’s watches

With a great range of features, the womens and men’s watches are powered by a basic Japanese quartz movement, with many on interchangeable straps, so buyers can adapt the watch to suit their outfit, mood or personality.

Those looking for a classic leather strap will love the Native collection, available in silver, rose gold, gun metal and gold – and three dial colours.

Nordgreen is currently offering customers the chance to save up to 20% with its one and two strap bundles.
