Rihanna performed for the first time on stage since she was allegedly assaulted by her on/off boyfriend Chris Brown.

The ‘Disturbia’ singer joined Kanye West at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala in New York on Monday (04.05.09) dressed in a black Dolce and Gabbana power suit.

The duo performed Kanye’s song, ‘Say You Will’ before Rihanna sang an emotional ’Live Your Life’ from the heart.

A source said, “Kanye wanted her to do it. It was his idea, buy Vogue editor Anna Wintour obviously had to approve it. Anna was at the run-through during the day and was so in to it.”

The audience went wild when they saw the 21-year-old singer, shouting messages of love and support.

Rihanna avoided any conversation or comments about Chris, and instead smiled and waved at the audience.

Many of the celebs at the Met ball were happy to see Rihanna back doing what she does best.

Rachel Roy said, “I love the performance. I think every woman stood up and cheered for Rihanna. We’re happy to support her and we want her to rock.”

After the performance and show, Rihanna was seen chatting to Victoria Beckham, Madonna, and fashion designers Marc Jacobs and Stella McCartney.

Later in the evening the ‘Rehab’ actress was seen talking to ‘Gossip Girl’ star Blake Lively at Jacob’s after-party at trendy restaurant Monkey Bar,

At the meal, insiders say that Vogue editor, Anna spent a lot of time with Rihanna and sang her praises all night. One insider said, “Anna was telling Rihanna how great she was. It looks like someone may be ending up on future pages of Vogue in the very near future.”

Later Rihanna was spotted dancing with close friends at club, Bungalow 8.

Chris Brown, 20, has pleaded not guilty to assault and making criminal threats in a Los Angeles court last month.

We are all more than aware now that Victoria Beckham and arch-enemy Katie Price came face to face at Sir Elton John’s post-Oscars party, it is well known within the celebrity circuit that the former Spice Girl and the glamour model have been engaged in a bitter feud for years, but according to sources at the party Katie tried to bury the hatchet and approached Posh to say hello - only for the wag to snub her and completely ignore he attempts to finally clear the air. 

Katie, 30, spoke about the situation saying: “I saw Victoria and tried to approach her to say ‘hello’. But she blatantly refused to make eye contact with me. It was so rude. Instead she muttered something under her breath. She was definitely slagging me off and couldn’t get away fast enough. I was pretty p***** off but now I couldn’t care less. I won’t look her way again.”

Victoria, 34, sat at the far end of the marquee in Los Angeles’ Pacific Design Centre with Sharon Stone, Eva Longoria, Gordon Ramsay, Kate Beckinsale, Seal and Heidi Klum, ignoring Katie.

But before the night came to an end the glamour model’s husband, Peter Andre, went to make peace, much to Katie’s horror, expecting Posh to ignore him too - which Katie wouldn’t be able to cope with and has said if this had happened she would of most probably ended up making a scene. 

Peter said: “I wrapped Victoria up in a big hug. She was absolutely fine, a total sweetheart. I think she’s great so I went to apologise, she accepted the apology and was lovely to me.”

At the Oscar awards on Sunday night Miley Cyrus was one of the first big stars to arrive on the famous red carpet of the 81^st Academy Awards and looked adorable.

She told reporters that her bejeweled fish scale tiered princess gown - designed by Zuhair Murad - was inspired by “The Little Mermaid.”

When the dress is viewed from close up, the detail to the beading is unique and exquisite, the dress does truly give out a fairy princess look and Miley wore it perfectly – because it really did look like something out of the Disney Collection.

Miley accessorized with a clutch by Mary Norton, Neil Lane diamond earrings and BCBG shoes. She wore her hair in a low, loose chignon and kept her makeup subtle.

When Miley was interviews on the red carpet she was asked who she would be “celebrity stalking” tonight, she said Angelina Jolie saying that she wouldn’t mind being adopted by her.

She also said she was worried that her dress may be seen as ‘too old’ for her, even though it looks like something a fairy princess would wear to her birthday party… definitely not too old. 

After Katie Holmes failed to show at the Oscars on Sunday night, everyone was wondering what had kept her away from the Los Angeles event as a successful actress most expected her to attend.

It turns out the actress swopped post-Oscar parties for an early night thousands of miles away on the other side of America in preparation for filming her new movie, The Extra Man.

So Katie didn’t spend the evening dressed up in a glamorous outfit, just a dowdy ensemble to protect her from the New York cold as she quietly strolled around alone.

Katie looked gaunt and was also seen carrying a bag emblazoned with the slogan ‘I Love My Home… Planet Earth’ and a pair of ballet shoes, which she later changed into.

Katie was not the only star to shun last night’s Oscars at the Kodak Theatre, other celebrities which made the choice to stay away from the event was Katie’s husband Tom Cruise, Leonardo DiCaprio, George Clooney, Scarlett Johansson, Julia Roberts and Jennifer Lopez.

Katie Holmes has caused concern recently after losing weight on an extreme diet called Purification Rundown, which is another aspect of her husband Tom’s scientology belief’s, but the detox which she began after her filming on broadway has left the 30-year-old looking painfully thin and exhausted.

She reportedly also missed the recent Armani party in New York during Fashion Week because she was feeling so run down, which is adding to concerns arising about her health. 

Friends actress Jennifer Aniston finally came face to face with love rival Angelina Jolie at the oscar awards on Sunday night, and what a hard way to do it - in front of millions of viewers.

Jennifer most recent film is ‘Marley and Me’ which is based on the book about a family who buy a puppy Labrador.

The star presented the award for Best Animated Feature Film after pulling off a great double act with comic Jack Black watched by ex-husband Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, who were sat right on the front row literally a stone throw away from Jennifer.

And both Angelina and Brad smiled as the comic pair joked about Jack’s animation voiceovers, and Jen grumbled about her meagre paycheck for The Iron Giant.

Jack replied: “Each year I do a Dreamworks movie then I take all the money to the Oscars and bet it on Pixar.”

Addressing the Dreamworks head co-host Jen added: “I’m sorry Mr Katzenberg, I don’t know why we let him out.”

The comic double made a great pair and had the audience laughing before the award was presented, I bet poor Jennifer let out a huge sigh of relief when it was over!

Brad and Jennifer split in 2005 after he met Angelina on the set of Mr and Mrs Smith, and there has been speculation since that Brad actually cheated on Jennifer with Angelina whilst they were still married, but this has never been confirmed. 

Brit film Slumdog Millionaire bagged eight trophies at the Brits including best picture, direction, adapted screenplay and cinematography and these awards cement the reputation of Fox Searchlight as a champion of work that Hollywood won’t risk.

The film Slumdog Millionaire is a love story which has successfully combined an artists ambition but the commercial appeal of the film is broad and most can relate to the film, it will cover all genre’s of tastes and has already appealed to many already, and this is reflected by the films wins on the night winning eight Oscars, including the best picture trophy.

The 81st annual Academy Awards marked an amazing outcome for the movie, which was filled with subtitles, scenes of torture and a Bollywood dance sequence, and these wins give the distributor Film Searchlight a amazing reputation which has resulted in it becoming Hollywood’s top advocate of the kind of daring works that movie studios have all but abandoned.

The director of Slumdog was Brit Danny Boyle, and he captured the fictional account of a Mumbai orphan’s surprising winning streak on India’s version of “Who Wants to be a Millionaire”, from which he tough upbringing in the Indian slums resulted in him having the experience and knowledge to win the show, which was constantly questioned throughout the process of winning - as he was accused of cheating by the government and tortured to try and get him to admit he was a cheat. 

The film was produced by a British company and the wins for the film have dramatized the global compass reading of contemporary movie production, as other top Oscar winners showed. 

The best supporting actress winner was Spain’s Penelope Cruz for “Vicky Cristina Barcelona”; Australian actor Heath Ledger was posthumously named best supporting actor for “The Dark Knight”; and British star Kate Winslet won best actress for “The Reader.” The only acting winner with a U.S. birth certificate: Sean Penn, who played the title character in “Milk.”

The genre of films has appeared to change recently and the big movie studios are steering clear of highbrow literary dramas, aiming their resources at mass-appeal works including family-friendly animation, superhero stories and established franchises such as James Bond and Harry Potter.

As others have ditched movies that require patient marketing to build grass-roots audience interest — “Slumdog Millionaire” debuted in just 10 theaters last November and didn’t reach its widest national release until last weekend — Fox Searchlight has become Hollywood’s unequaled home for films made outside the normal studio channels, the domestic gross from Slumdog is estimated at $100 million. 

Danny Boyle briefly spoke about the film backstage saying: “It’s a triumph for this kind of film.”

Katy Perry has denied circulating rumors that she is dating Paris Hilton’s ex Benji Madden, and she has denied these rumors through her online blogs coming straight from the horses mouth! 

The pair were pictured getting very close after Katy’s Valentine’s Day gig at Las Vegas’ Hard Rock Casino on Saturday sparking speculation they were an item. Katy, 24, wrote on her official website: “Oh kittens! It’s two pseudo famous people sitting next to each other… doesn’t mean we were bumping uglies! You know I don’t just do that with anyone! That’s just how the media works, as you can tell. I was there celebrating a really fun show and a boozy valentines with all my good friends. We were like a group of 25!”

Welsh singer-songwriter Duffy was virtually unknown just 12 months ago yet she was the toast of the Brit Awards after winning a series of trophies.

The 24-year-old from Bangor capped a remarkable year by taking home awards in the Best British Female Singer, Best British Breakthrough Act and Best Album categories.

Her debut album, Rockferry, was released in March 2008 and went on to sell five million copies worldwide.

After being handed her first award from countryman Sir Tom Jones, she said: “I travelled this whole country, from Wales to London and back again a thousand times, playing my songs to old ladies, who are probably watching the TV tonight saying they heard some of my songs. So thank you to the British public. I can’t tell you what this means after five years. Thank you so much.”

Picking up her second gong, for best breakthrough act, she joked: “I’m starting to recognize your faces — I don’t mean to be greedy and take another one home, but thank you so much.”

Backstage when the awards were over Duffy said: “I’m overwhelmed. I didn’t think I would win three awards. The chances were slim. It’s been the most amazing night.” She would be heading home to Wales after the event where her aunt planned an “open-house party”.

Duffy was nominated for the best British single award which was voted for by the viewers during the night – Girls Aloud picked up their first Brit award in seven years for their single ‘The Promise’ and beat their competition from Leona Lewis and Coldplay.

A little light hearted entertainment was provided by Kylie Minogue, who gamely performed her single ‘I Can’t Get You Out Of My Head’ with some very unlikely-looking backing dancers  -  James Corden and Matthew Horne of BBC comedy series Gavin And Stacey.

Kylie hosted the show and looked elegant in a white slashed to the thigh Alexander McQueen gown and her backing dancers - the actors - struggled through a robotic dance routine in tight-fitting red dresses.

Take That also performed their hit single Greatest Day which was another highlight of the night. The band lost out to Elbow in the Best British Group category, Elbow also scooped up the award over Coldplay.

Coldplay, who are fronted by Gwyneth Paltrow’s husband Chris Martin, have won the best album trophy every time they have released a new record  -  until this year. The group proved they are not your usual rock-and-roll hellraisers by requesting a dressing room with a bed in it in case they needed a nap.

Badly in need of a lie-down was breakthrough singing sensation Katy Perry, who was named best international female. The American said she had dragged herself to the awards, despite being ill.

Leona Lewis reportedly plans to shun the Brit Awards after she failed to get any major nominations, last year Leona had four nominations at the Brit Awards but she left empty handed last year after winning none of the awards. 

The former X factor winner flew in to Britain from America with boyfriend Lou Al-Charma at the weekend and was expected at the Brits. But according to The Daily Mirror she has now pulled out of attending the awards bash at London’s Earls Court on Wednesday night, a source close to Leona said”

“Leona is making a stand and is not going. She’s more likely to be curled up on the sofa with her boyfriend Lou in Hackney than to be getting glammed up for the Brits. She may even jet out somewhere on holiday.”

“Her view is, ‘What’s the point of getting her glad-rags on if the chances of being recognised on her own soil are slim to none’?”

Leona is only nominated for Best British Single, for Better In Time, which is decided by a public vote, unlike all the other awards which are voted for by music industry experts.

This year its Leona’s turn to snub the Brit’s. seeing at the Brit’s snubbed her last year, and Simon Cowell spoke out about this saying: “I don’t like The Brits. Leona at The Brits tells you everything about the record business. You should recognise and celebrate success, not sneer at it, wherever the artist comes from.” After it was reportedly that Leona was looked down on as an X Factor ‘reality show’ winner.

Cheryl Cole has been told to put on weight for her charity climb up Mount Kilimanjaro, Cheryl’s weight has been a much spoken about in magazines and in the news for the past year or so, looking very fragile at the end of last year. 

The fragile Girls Aloud singer has been told to “bulk up” before she climbs the mountain in Tanzania in aid of Comic Relief, and Cheryl has taken this advice into account and has been upping her intake of carbs to prepare for the climb.

A source close to the star said: “She’s not too skinny to do the trek any more - she’s put on weight and has been putting her heart and soul into the training. She’s been working hard with Ashley’s instructor practically every day.”

Cheryl, who plans to climb the 5,981m mountain at the end of this month, is said to be taking the trip very seriously.

The source continued: “She’s been eating more and making a big effort to eat. They will be burning lots of calories over the course of the trek and it’s estimated they will all lose half a stone to 10lbs, so she will more than likely lose the weight she’s put on anyway!

“They’ve all been told to bring their favourite sugary snack, and apparently Cheryl has chosen chocolate buttons. They’ve all been told to increase their carb intake the week before, so Cheryl will be eating loads of potatoes and bread, which she’s not used to.”

Cheryl is not the only star that is taking part in the climb, and stars that will be joining her are her bandmate Kimberley Walsh, Denise Van Outen, Alesha Dixon, Fearne Cotton, Gary Barlow, Ronan Keating, Chris Moyles and Ben Shephard.
