David Carradine’s family have asked the FBI to investigate his death amid speculation that the 72-year-old Kung Fu actor was murdered.
The actor was found dead in a hotel room in Bangkok, Thailand on Thursday, with reports suggesting he had died from accidental suffocation as part of a sex game gone wrong.
But last night, Carradine’s agent Chuck Binder-who described the death as “shocking and sad”-believes the actor was murdered.
Reports have suggested that Carradine was found with his hands tied behind his back and a footprint found on the bed which did not match his shoes.
Chuck Binder told CNN’s Larry King, “I don’t know if you want to call it accidental.
“I got some some calls from Thailand today from a producer that worked with him. I don’t want to get into the middle of this whole investigation, but this guy said to me for sure there was foul play.”
And the actor’s lawyer Vicki Roberts said, “I believe there there may have been foul play.”
However, Thai police have insisted that no one else was involved.
Thai police chief Worapong Chewprecha said that Carradine was found with a rope tied around his genitals and another rope around his neck.
“The two ropes were tied together,”he said. “It is unclear whether he committed suicide or not, or if he died of suffocation or heart failure.”
This news led to speculation that Carradine may have died from auto-erotic asphyxiation.
US Embassy spokesperson, Michael Turner confirmed the death of the 72-year-old actor, saying he died either on Wednesday evening (03.06.09) or Thursday morning. (04.06.09).
Actor Michael Madsen-who hosted Carradine’s wedding to Annie Bierman in 2004- said his widow was very shocked and confused by the death of her husband.
“I talked to Annie about that and she said the most important thing she wanted people to know was that David was not suicidal and he was not depressed.
“He was not about to do something like that, he had a job and he was working”
Carradine-who played Kwai Chang Caine in popular 70s series Kung Fu-is survived by his fifth wife, Annie Bierman.
He was nominated as the Best Actor for his role in Woody Guthrie in the 1976 movie ‘Bound For Glory’.
Speaking of his role in ‘Kung Fu’ Carradine said, “I don’t need to convince anybody that I know kung fu, but maybe somebody needs to know that I really can act without doing a Chinese accent or a funny walk.”
