8 Things That All Successful People Do in the Morning

Getting up in the morning can seem like torture at the best of times. Let’s face it – leaving your warm and cosy bed when you’ve not gotten enough sleep isn’t that appealing – especially when you know that it’s time to start the work day.

However, you may be missing out on a whole load of goodness if you’re not a morning person. Rushing out of the door after only waking up thirty minutes ago won’t set you up for a successful and productive day, and you’ll probably miss out on a great time to relax and prepare for the day ahead.

The few short hours that a morning gives can serve as an opportunity for taking care of yourself, allowing your creativity to flow and even reflecting on whatever issues may be on your mind; all of which will help your morning transform the rest of your day into a successful one.

Here are eight things you can do every morning to better your day – and yourself:

1. Don’t become glued to your phone

I’ll be the first to admit that as soon as my alarm rings, I’ll be on my phone scrolling through social media a few minutes later. However, checking your phone first-thing in the morning almost forces your body to become awake and alert, instead of giving it time to fully wake up. Steer clear of social media, emails and anything that might cause stress. Allow your morning to be a fresh start – not the first opportunity to check your mobile phone.

2. Hydrate your body

In order to make sure that you’re feeling strong enough to take on the upcoming day, have a glass of water before you leave the house. Not only will it naturally wake you up and allow you to feel more alert, but you’ll also feel more awake and alert; avoiding the grogginess that a Monday morning often brings.

3. Get some exercise

If you’re particularly squeamish at the thought of exercise so early in the morning, don’t worry – you can lightly exercise without even leaving your bed! In the morning, I like to switch off my alarm and start by doing some stretches, followed by a few yoga poses. It helps my body feel ready for the day and wakens up my muscles after a night’s sleep.

4. Make the bed

You’ve probably heard that the most successful people in the world make their bed every morning, and it’s for good reason! Making the bed every morning has been found to increase your productivity throughout the day, and it will provide you with a feeling of accomplishment before the day even begins.

5. Meditate

Before the rush, manic and stress of a typical work day rolls around, take some time out of your morning routine to get peace of mind. Practicing meditation will bring calmness to your day and is especially useful for relaxing before the day comes, and it doesn’t have to be difficult either. Simply pick a spot where you feel comfortable and clear your mind.

6. Connect with other people

Whether you’re cuddling with your loved one before they head off to work or simply grabbing a coffee on the way to a meeting, connecting with other people reminds you that there is a life outside of your job and that there are so many people that you’re yet to meet. There’s only one exception to this – it must not be through your phone!

7. Prepare for the day ahead

If you know that you’re going to have a busy day coming up, don’t leave it until the last minute to get prepared. Make a to-do list for the day, or pack your lunch to avoid rushing when you’re heading out of the door.

You could even consider getting a customised garment to start your day off positively.

8. Listen to music

Music has been shown to dramatically reduce anxiety, which you may be feeling if you’re stressed about what the day has in store for you. Instead of letting the thoughts circle your mind, listen to the radio in your car or your favourite Spotify playlist on the bus.

What is your favourite part of your morning routine? Are you guilty of checking your phone first-thing in the morning?
