“I know what women want,” Valentino Garavani once said,” They want to be beautiful.”
He grew up in provincial Voghera, when he was younger he loved going to movies. One movie, in particular, Ziegfeld Girl, filled him with the lust of beautiful life,” For me, a young guy of 13, to see this sort of beauty-I think from that moment I decided I wanted to create clothes for ladies.”
He studied in Paris after which he sharpened his skills in salons of Jean Dessès and Guy Lorche. On returning to Italy in 1959 he opened his own luxurious studio and came in the spotlight among Rome’s elite.
Since then the House of Valentino has been the house of glamour for many decades dressing its clientele in the best dresses.
His dresses were always of the finest fabrics, always molto elegante. His dresses were modern and clean, filled with bows, flowers, ruffles, embroideries, and laces.
PARIS COUTURE WEEK HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO COVID-19
Since the Paris Couture Week of runway show has officially been canceled but it is not stopping Valentino from hosting its couture show to Italy based reviewers. The show must go on.
Valentino’s creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli is scheming a couture week that will engage both physical and digital worlds. Valentino is still participating in digital couture week, and on July 8 at 6 p.m. they will show off the inspiration for their latest collection. Moreover, they are going to host a show on July 21 at Cinecittà Studios.
The show will be conducted in “respect of the current situation with all the necessary precautions” amid the virus outbreak, which is still an issue in Europe despite the recent ease in lockdowns and travel limitations. This event will also be broadcasted live on digital channels.
According to Valentino, his creative director Piccioli had a project running in his mind combining both the physical and digital world even before the health crisis. The house said in a statement,” The limits that we are living need to be transcended through grace and lightness.”
Valentino stressed on the fact that digital effects cannot replace the human touch, and to fully express creativity live performances play an important role.
Normally, Valentino has his couture shows at the Hôtel Salomon de Rothschild but despite the change in location and new format, Valentino is not going to let anyone look down upon its show. With video format presentation The Digital Couture Week will take place from 6 to 8 July but with some notable absences. As they just named Matthew Williams their creative director therefore Givenchy will not be joining the couture week.
Italy has managed to flatten the curve after having one of the worst coronavirus outbreak rates and slowly began reopening the business in April, with businesses taking necessary sanitation measures for the health and welfare of citizens. With some travel restrictions, and without a large international audience, this show will be one of the smaller-scale shows.
