The Max and Cindy wedding drama on EastEnders has reached fever pitch, with the latest episode dropping early on BBC iPlayer leaving viewers on a knife-edge cliffhanger as both Linda Carter and Priya Nandra-Hart walked in on the ceremony.
Spoilers follow for the latest episode on BBC iPlayer, which has not yet aired on BBC One.
How the Max and Cindy wedding drama unravelled
The episode began with Oscar and Jack scouring the Square for Max, who turned up hungover and bruised. Guests were already dropping out of attending the wedding, much to Cindy’s frustration. Things quickly escalated when Max showed up at Peacock Palace to confront Linda over her admission, made just the night before, that she was in love with him. He accused her of waiting until the eve of his wedding to tell him ‘the thing I’ve been waiting years to hear’, and of ‘getting off’ on ‘throwing breadcrumbs’. In the heat of the row, Max admitted he had been sleeping with Priya, and Linda promptly threw him out.
From there, Max headed to the car lot to find Priya, and the two clashed again. Priya told him she was quitting her job and calling off the affair to focus on her engagement to Ravi Gulati. Max replied: ‘Well, let’s hope Linda don’t blab, then.’ The moment was made considerably worse when Lauren walked in. Furious at the affair, she told Max she wanted ‘nothing to do with it’ before leaving him with a parting shot: ‘Have a nice wedding, dad.’
Back home and sunk into a slump, Max declared there was no point going to the wedding as it would be a ‘disaster’. Jack pushed him to go anyway, pointing out that he had left Denise in hospital to be there. Max relented. As he and Cindy finally stood at the altar, both Linda and Priya arrived. The episode cut before Linda could say a word, leaving the outcome entirely open.
What comes next in the Max Branning storyline
The fallout from the Max and Cindy wedding drama is set to stretch well beyond the ceremony itself. According to EastEnders spoiler account @ee.spoilers20 on Threads, Cindy will discover that Lauren knew about Max’s affair before the wedding and will clash with her over it at Harvey’s birthday party. That development suggests the ripple effects of Max’s behaviour are far from contained, with Lauren now drawn into the conflict whether she wanted to be or not.
Max’s position looks increasingly precarious. Priya, who is pregnant, had called off the affair again in favour of her engagement to Ravi. Linda, meanwhile, had finally told Max how she felt only to have him confess the affair in the same breath. Lauren has washed her hands of the situation. The altar scene, with both women now in the room, is the collision point of every thread Max has been frantically trying to keep apart.
Elsewhere on the Square, Kim and Howie’s wedding day had its own complications. The horse Howie had booked as a surprise arrived, prompting Denzel to voice doubts about whether Kim would want it threatening her dress and hair. As it turned out, Kim loved it. Denise watched via video call from her hospital bed. Kim then became overwhelmed and decided the setting was not right, so the couple, along with friends and family, relocated to Denise’s hospital room to get married there.
BBC EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One, with most episodes available on BBC iPlayer from 6am on the day of broadcast.
