Eden stem cell donor search turns desperate in Home and Away next week

Eden stem cell donor search

Home and Away‘s Eden stem cell donor search reaches a crisis point next week on Channel 5, as match after match is ruled out and the clock starts to feel very loud indeed. Cash, meanwhile, is holding himself together by a thread, and the arrival of a familiar face may be the emotional lifeline the Fowler family needs.

Here is everything coming up in the week of 21 to 25 September.

Eden stem cell donor search hits a wall

The week opens with a gut punch for Cash: he is not a suitable stem cell donor for Eden. The doctors do allow Eden to be discharged from hospital, though she is told to isolate and keep contact with others to a minimum to reduce infection risk. The relief of going home does not last long. Cash finds Eden in tears, and he is barely keeping it together himself.

The bad news keeps coming. Neither of Eden’s parents turns out to be a match, and a socially distanced breakfast with Levi and Abigail ends with the revelation that Levi is also ruled out. Abigail is left feeling guilty that her past drug use means she cannot even put herself forward as a potential donor. Then Mackenzie is told she is not a viable match either, leaving Levi placing his remaining hopes on immunosuppressant therapy buying more time.

To understand why the Eden stem cell donor search is proving so difficult, it helps to know what Eden is actually fighting. According to Digital Spy, Dr Amelia Carlisle revealed that Eden has aplastic anaemia, a condition in which the bone marrow stops producing enough blood cells. It is a serious diagnosis, and it goes some way to explaining the urgency and the narrow odds of finding a compatible donor within the family.

With options running low, Remi, Mali and Sonny all come forward, keen to be tested. Levi, who has exhausted every other avenue trying to save his sister, is fully supportive of getting them tested. Sensing Levi’s escalating stress, Mackenzie makes a private call to Jimmy, asking how soon he can get to the Bay.

Jimmy arrives as the Fowler family reunite

Levi gets a surprise when Jimmy turns up on his doorstep, ready to help however he can. The family arrange a picnic near the beach so Eden can spend time with her dad. But when Cash helps Eden out of the car, Jimmy is visibly shaken by how frail she has become. The gathering lifts spirits, though it also raises questions about whether being out in public puts Eden’s health under further strain during the ongoing Eden stem cell donor search.

Cash is also dealing with something more personal this week. He is triggered by memories of being sent away by his father when his mother was ill, which only sharpens his sense of how much it matters to have family close during something like this.

Tane and Sonny’s relationship reaches breaking point

Away from the hospital corridors, Tane is in no mood for reconciliation. Sonny is struggling badly, dealing with withdrawal symptoms and grief over losing Dana, and he has been avoiding going out for fear of running into Tane. On Remi’s advice, Sonny tries to apologise, but Tane makes his position clear: if you cannot bring Archie back, we are done.

The confrontation leaves Sonny in despair. Remi decides to move out of Tane’s place so he can be closer to his friend and keep an eye on him.

Tane’s week takes another blow when John confirms that Harper and Archie have signed a rental deal on a new place that is half a day’s drive from Summer Bay. Tane refuses to direct any anger towards Harper. In his view, Sonny is the only one responsible for the distance now between him and his son.

Zane faces a devastating letter, and David makes a move

Zane receives an envelope from Restorative Justice services containing medical notes about his victim Heidi. The notes confirm that Heidi has been permanently damaged by injuries sustained during the robbery Zane was involved in. Tucked among the paperwork is a post-it note from Heidi’s family: ‘we will never forgive you.’ Marilyn checks in on Zane, but he is too shaken to engage. The following morning, Marilyn tells David she feels they should try contacting Heidi’s family again, though David disagrees strongly. Zane, for his part, rips up the medical paperwork and hands it back to Marilyn, drawing his own line under it.

On a lighter note, David and Amelia’s relationship moves forward. After Lacey breaks down and tells Jo how much she misses their mum, David apologises to Lacey for hurting her. He then heads to Amelia’s motel room. The pair agree to keep their physical relationship at Amelia’s for now, and David later tells Amelia on the beach that Lacey and Jo are on board. Lacey, however, is masking her true feelings considerably more than David realises.

Home and Away drops new episodes on weekdays at 6am on Channel 5’s streaming service, with a 6.30pm screening on 5STAR.
