George Maguire revealed as Jack Sparrow cast in Secret Cinema’s Pirates spectacular

Empty theater space with industrial design and dramatic lighting, ideal for performances

Secret Cinema has announced the full cast for its world premiere immersive production of Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean, and the Jack Sparrow cast announcement is the one everyone will be talking about. Olivier award winner George Maguire will take on the iconic role of Captain Jack Sparrow when the show opens at Secret Cinema’s new purpose-built flagship venue at Digital Spy-covered Greenwich Peninsula in London.

Previews begin on 16 February 2027, with the official opening night set for 10 March 2027. Tickets are on sale now through TodayTix.

Who else is in the cast?

Maguire, among the trio of original Billy Elliot performers in Billy Elliot the Musical, leads a cast that includes EastEnders legend Phil Daniels as Captain Barbossa. Lily Blunsom takes on the role of Elizabeth Swann, Harrison Wilde plays Will Turner, and Gleanne Purcell-Brown steps in as Anamaria.

Behind the scenes, Olivier award winner Matt Costain directs, with two-time Emmy award winner Jason Sherwood serving as Production Designer.

What kind of experience can audiences expect?

Secret Cinema describes the production as placing ‘live theatrical storytelling at its heart,’ with ‘spectacular set pieces and specially curated clips from Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl woven into the experience rather than a full film screening.’ Audiences can expect ‘over two swashbuckling hours’ in which they are invited to become part of the story rather than simply watch it unfold.

Merritt Baer, Artistic Director and Producer of Secret Cinema, called it ‘exactly the kind of show we’ve been building towards,’ adding: ‘Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean is everything we love about immersive entertainment. It’s bold, mischievous, wildly entertaining and filled with characters and a world you can’t help but want to explore.’

Baer went on to say the team has ‘taken everything Secret Cinema does best and pushed it further than ever before, creating a new kind of theatrical experience where the story doesn’t just happen in front of you, it happens all around you.’ She promised audiences ‘adventure, surprises, spectacular performances, a little chaos and plenty of opportunities to get swept up in the fun.’

Angelo Desimini, Senior Vice President, Licensed Partnerships and Brand Management at Disney Theatrical Group, described the production as ‘both artistically ambitious and wonderfully entertaining,’ saying the partnership with Secret Cinema offers ‘the opportunity to bring that spirit to life through exceptional theatrical talent and immersive storytelling.’

In May 2026, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Secret Cinema had described the Greenwich Peninsula site, which sits minutes from The O2 Arena, as the company’s new long-term home, with the Pirates production set to be the first show staged there.

Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: The Immersive Adventure begins previews on 16 February 2027, with the official opening on 10 March 2027. Tickets are available now on TodayTix.
