Summer Spellman new romance teased as Corrie reveals Marco Rhodes

Summer Spellman new romance

Summer Spellman’s new romance is on the cards in ITV‘s Coronation Street next week, when she crosses paths with a mystery man whose unconventional chat-up strategy involves walking off with her artwork.

A stolen drawing and a very bold introduction

It all begins at Roy’s, where Summer receives a compliment about one of her drawings from a lad called Marco. So far, so ordinary. But when Summer steps away from the table, Marco rips out a page from her notepad and disappears with it.

Summer has no idea what has happened to her illustration until she walks past a tattoo shop and spots it in the window. That discovery sends her straight back into Marco’s orbit.

‘Summer leaves her drawings on the table while she goes to the bathroom, then when she comes back, one of them has disappeared,’ a Weatherfield insider tells us. ‘She can’t figure out why, until she sees her art in the window of the tattoo parlour. It’s that realisation that leads Summer back into Marco’s orbit.’

Outside the shop, Summer confronts Marco and accuses him of theft. His defence? He only took the drawing as an excuse to see her again. He offers to buy it from her, and suggests they meet for a drink to sort things out. Whether Summer agrees is the question Corrie is leaving viewers to sit with heading into next week.

‘Summer has been single for a while now,’ the source adds. ‘She’s been through a lot over the last several months, so that makes sense, but now things have quietened down, it could be the right time to start dating again.’

Who is playing Marco, and what do we know about him?

The character’s full name is Marco Rhodes, according to LIPA, which confirmed the role in a piece celebrating the casting. Marco is played by newcomer Will Teasdale, who announced the news himself on Instagram earlier this week, ahead of his first scenes airing.

Teasdale wrote: ‘Still feels a bit mad saying this but… I will be joining the insanely talented cast of Coronation Street! Absolutely buzzing and still pinching myself to be honest. I am so grateful and thankful to have been offered this role, and to be a part of this incredible team. I know how special this is and I owe so much to so, so many incredible people. Much love as always and see you on’t cobbles.’

LIPA’s announcement confirmed that Teasdale is a graduate of the institution, making his Coronation Street debut a milestone moment for the school. Before that, his path into the industry began earlier still: the News and Star reports that Teasdale got his start at Stagecoach Carlisle, with the casting sparking local pride back home.

The News and Star piece underlines just how far Teasdale has come, from Carlisle to the cobbles of one of British television’s longest-running soaps. For viewers in the north of England, Summer Spellman’s new romance with Marco Rhodes will carry that extra layer of local interest.

Summer Spellman’s new romance: what to expect

Corrie is being careful not to give too much away about where the Summer and Marco story is headed. The show’s insider frames it as a fresh chapter for a character who has had a turbulent run of late, suggesting the timing feels right for something lighter.

Whether Marco’s unorthodox approach to making an impression translates into something lasting remains to be seen on screen. Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1, with episodes also available to stream on ITVX.
