Walsh Sisters season 2 cast confirmed with Cold Feet and Peaky Blinders stars

Walsh Sisters season 2 cast

The Walsh Sisters season 2 cast is taking shape, with the BBC confirming a fresh wave of additions to the Dublin-set comedy alongside plot details for the forthcoming run. Peter Coonan, Aislín McGuckin, Art Campion and Fay Ripley will all join the show, while the original ensemble returns intact.

Who is joining the Walsh Sisters season 2 cast?

The four new faces bring a range of familiar television credentials. Coonan is known to audiences from Peaky Blinders, while McGuckin comes from Normal People and Campion from How to Get to Heaven from Belfast. Ripley, perhaps the most recognisable name on the list for long-standing British viewers, is best remembered for her years on Cold Feet.

According to BBC Media Centre, McGuckin will play a character called Patsy Costello in the new series, a name that will mean nothing yet to viewers who have not read the source novels, but plenty to fans of Marian Keyes’ books. Her casting alongside Coonan and Campion suggests the season will widen the world considerably beyond the Walsh family home.

Returning for the new run are lead cast members Caroline Menton, Danielle Galligan, Máiréad Tyers, Stefanie Preissner, Louisa Harland, Aidan Quinn and Carrie Crowley. Preissner also continues as creative lead and writer on the production, which is made by Cuba Pictures and Metropolitan Films for the BBC.

What happens in season 2, and when does it arrive?

The new series adapts two more of Keyes’ novels: The Mystery of Mercy Close and Angels. Season 1 drew on Rachel’s Holiday and Anybody Out There?, so the show is moving steadily through the source material.

Plot-wise, Rachel steps outside the family bubble to focus on her recovery, though a chance encounter with someone she knows threatens to complicate things. Claire, meanwhile, pushes back against the traditional expectations placed on her as a mother. Anna turns to some unusual methods to get over heartbreak, Maggie’s vision of the perfect family runs into an unexpected obstacle, and Helen’s struggles with her emotional wellbeing leave her fiercely overprotective of her sisters.

In among all of it, Daddy Walsh remains entirely preoccupied with his ambition to join the local amateur dramatic musical, a fixation that Mammy Walsh finds, predictably, quite wearing.

No specific broadcast date has been confirmed, but WatchTrends.us reports the season is expected to arrive on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in 2026. That timeline would be welcome news for viewers who waited some months between the Irish and UK premieres of the first run. Season 1 aired in September 2025 on RTÉ in Ireland, with the BBC One broadcast following in February of this year.

The show is adapted from the novels of Marian Keyes and describes its central siblings as ‘chaotic, dysfunctional, but deeply loveable’. Given the reception to the first series, the BBC is clearly betting that description still has plenty of mileage in it. The Walsh Sisters season 2 is now in production, with the full new cast confirmed and plot threads in place, BBC One viewers can expect the Walsh family chaos to resume later this year.
