Taking into consideration over fifty typical British desserts, the top ten was revealed by analysing both their popularity on Instagram as well as the number of Google searches for each dessert.
1. Apple Crumble
Wearing the crown this year is the delicious apple crumble. With 1,444,720 posts on Instagram (for ‘crumble’ and ‘apple crumble’ combined), it’s a clear winner. The crumble has a history that dates back to Britain during the Second World War and has remained a firm favourite ever since. This delightful dessert is most commonly made up of baked apples (sometimes with berries) topped with rolled oats and brown sugar. 2. Lemon Drizzle
Light and fluffy on the inside with a kick of zesty goodness, it’s definitely easy to understand why the lemon drizzle scores so high on this list. Securing a respectable third place is the classic Scottish shortbread, with a huge 522,606 mentions on Instagram. Quite literally a block of pure sugar, butter and flour, this is a simple yet very effective biscuit to accompany your afternoon cuppa. This is also a common treat that’s shared at Christmas, making it perfect for right now!
4. Banoffee Pie
Bananas, cream and toffee combined with a biscuity base – what’s not to love?! The banoffee pie is a family favourite, originating from the Jevington region of East Sussex. Serve your freshly baked pie with a dollop of vanilla ice cream for the best combination. Join 170,783 others who have shown off their variations of the banoffee pie on Instagram.
5. Bread and Butter Pudding
Another British cuisine classic, scoring a strong 94,900 searches on Google, we have the bread and butter pudding.
