Actress and singer Susie Vanner is perhaps best known for starring opposite Roger Moore in the 1977 film The Spy Who Loved Me, which earned her the moniker ‘Log Cabin Girl’. Prior to becoming a Bond girl, Susie had acted in numerous television commercials, including the well-known Just Musk commercials that aired throughout the 1970s. She went on to act on stage, before earning a leading role in a Spanish movie. In 1969, she recorded Don’t Pity Me, a record that is now regarded as a Northern Soul classic.

Recalling her arrival on the set of The Spy Who Loved Me, Susie remembers arriving at Pinewood and pinching herself when she discovered she had her own dressing-room with her name on it, as well as her own make-up girl. Walking on set and discovering Roger Moore lying with a girl, she recounts wondering what was going on – but the actress subsequently discovered the production team was using a stand-in to help prepare the scene and get the lighting right.

Susie has fond memories of the late Sir Roger Moore, acknowledging that he was a lot of fun and had a tendency to ad-lib in scenes. In an interview with The Sunday Post, she explained that she still received fan mail relating to her Bond film with Roger Moore some 42 years later.

After filming for The Spy Who Loved Me was complete, Susie travelled the world promoting the movie, walking red carpets in Japan, South Africa, Australia and South America. The actress remained busy after the Bond movie, starring in the film Nighthawks opposite Sylvester Stallone and continuing to work until the mid-1980s.

Susie appeared in the BBC’s Count Dracula alongside Louis Jourdan. She also worked on an American TV movie with Kirk Douglas, as well as starring in the programmes Tales of the Unexpected, Minder and Play for Today. Susie had a lead part in Kiss the Girls and Make Them Cry, a BBC series that required her to spend 10 weeks filming in the New Forest, which she enjoyed. With a love of healthy living, Susie regularly practices yoga and follows a healthy lifestyle. Since beating cancer she does not drink, following an alkaline diet and avoiding sugars. For Susie, dance has always been a fundamental part of her life and an important way of maintaining her fitness, her love of dance obvious for all to see on the actress and singer’s Instagram page.
