Wednesday’s episode (2 September), available now on ITVX, is a big one, and Sadie is far from the only person in the village causing chaos.
Patsy Kensit back as Sadie King after 20 years away
It has been two decades since Sadie King last set foot in the Dales, and her re-entry is anything but understated. She sweeps in by helicopter and pauses to lay a single red rose at the scene of Jimmy’s crash, a gesture that is equal parts tribute and theatre. Her stated reason for coming back is to pay her respects, and she insists there is nothing more to it than that.
Nobody quite believes her. According to an Instagram reel posted ahead of the episode, Patsy Kensit is returning to the role of Sadie King, and her arrival is already generating the kind of friction that only a long-absent face with old scores to settle can produce. The bombshell she drops in Wednesday’s episode is big enough, the show promises, to turn the King family’s lives upside-down.
Robert, Eric, Charity, Chas, Bob and Sam are among those who react with visible shock to her reappearance. Old rivalries flare up quickly, while those newer to the village need a quick briefing on exactly who she is and why the atmosphere shifts the moment she walks in. In a nice contrast, Lewis is the only one with a kind word for her.
DS Ramsden sparks suspicion at the police station
While the village processes Sadie’s return, the Ramsden storyline is quietly gathering pace. Kim faces another round of questioning at the police station, with DS Ramsden still apparently intent on pinning the crash that killed Jimmy and Dawn on her. The pressure is considerable, but it hits a wall the moment Kim’s solicitor steps in and points out just how thin the evidence actually is. With nothing solid enough to charge Kim, the solicitor forces Ramsden to release her.
Back at Home Farm, Kim sits down with Graham and talks through what has been happening. She tells him that Ramsden’s behaviour felt personal, not purely procedural. Graham, in turn, reveals that Ramsden had been snooping around Home Farm only a few days earlier and offered unconvincing explanations for being there. It is another thread being pulled loose in the slow unravelling of the Sadie King Emmerdale return-sized secret at the centre of the season: the question of whether Kim is getting any closer to working out that Ramsden may be her long-lost daughter.
Ramsden’s vendetta is becoming more visible by the episode, which raises the question of how much longer she can keep her personal stake hidden from those around her, and from Kim in particular.

Away from both of those storylines, Lucas turns up at Home Farm to confront Joe directly. Lucas is convinced that Joe’s attempt to disown him and Clemmie was driven by grief rather than genuine feeling, and he arrives hoping to test that theory. Whether Joe is ready to reverse his decision (or whether he holds firm) plays out in what looks set to be one of the episode’s more emotionally charged scenes.
It is a thread that sits alongside the broader weight of the village still in mourning for Jimmy and Dawn, and Joe’s position in the middle of the King family fallout gives the Lucas confrontation an extra layer of pressure.
