Thinking of trading in your bottle for a shampoo bar? You’re not the only one!

Nowadays, a lot of people are making the switch to natural shampoo because it is one of the best ways to cut down on plastic pollution and help the environment.

Read on to discover what exactly a shampoo bar is and why it is a better alternative to bottled shampoo.

What is a shampoo bar?

As the name suggests, a shampoo bar is a concentrated block of shampoo. While bottled shampoo comes in a liquid form, a shampoo bar is a solid.

Natural and organic, shampoo bars are loaded with revitalising and nourishing ingredients that fortify and nourish scalp and hair follicles, while sealing and moisturising the strands. Shampoo bars were common before the 1940s, until their liquid counterparts got invented. Nowadays, they are making a comeback due to increased environmental awareness.

Why should I switch?

Here are seven reasons why you should to switch to shampoo bars:

  1. Toxin-free & nourishing natural ingredients

Unlike bottled shampoos that consist of harsh chemicals, shampoo bars are made of all natural, organic, and fresh ingredients. Shampoo bars get their lathering ability through ingredients like apple cider vinegar, tea tree oil, and other essential oils. These ingredients are super gentle on the hair and will keep them manageable and soft.

  1. Almost no plastic packaging

Replacing your bottled shampoo with a natural bar is an excellent way to transition your beauty regimen into an eco-friendly one. Liquid shampoo bottles increase our ecological footprint because they are non-recyclable.

Shampoo bars cut out the need for plastic bottles as they are typically supplied in recyclable and/or biodegradable paper, bioplastic, or card.

  1. Travel friendly and leak free

Shampoo bars are leak free and travel friendly. Most airports have a regulation on carrying liquids in the carbon baggage. Not to mention if the shampoo bottle isn’t sealed well, it can leak and spoil your clothes. With a shampoo bar, you don’t have to worry about this and you can take as little or as much as you want, depending on how many days you are travelling.

  1. Inexpensive and long-lasting

Many shampoos are 80% water. Shampoo bars, on the other hand, are more concentrated. They are long-lasting and cost-effective as you can use a standard bar for 8-10 washes. Not only does shampoo bar outlast three bottles of liquid shampoo, but it also allows you to skip using a conditioner as it already contains natural conditioning ingredients. This makes it very cost-effective.

  1. Preservative free, infused with essential oils – very safe for your hair

Many traditional bottled shampoos are filled with chemicals and preservatives that can leave your scalp feeling dry by striping your hair of its natural oils. Most shampoo bars are made up of preservative free, natural ingredients like castor oil, coconut oil, hemp seed oil, or argan oil. Infused with these essential oils, shampoo bars are very safe for your hair.

It’s time to throw that bottle out of the window and start using shampoo bars as an effective, gentler, and safer alternative. While switching to shampoo bars may seem like a lot at first, the transition is easier than you might think and the pay-off is definitely worth it.

  1. Environmentally conscious

This is by far the number one reason to switch to shampoo bars, no packaging required, so much better for the environment than their bottled counterparts.

When you realise that 500 people shampoo their hair on average every second, we can quickly imagine why the plastic continent is growing so fast! Presumably, most shampoo consumers buy it in the bottle, and that’s not counting all those little samples of products available in hotels and companies.

We know that there are more than 480 billion plastic bottles (this figure could reach 583.3 billion in 2021) that were sold in 2016 worldwide. Placed end to end, all these bottles would go halfway between the distance which separates us from the sun.

These statistics only relate to plastic water bottles, think about it, packaging is a nightmare, we have to destroy it! It may be only a small gesture on our scale, but if the movement starts, we can avoid many plastic bottles, all together. Let us not forget that we are the consumers who directly influence the offer. Fewer bottles of shampoo also means less space in the bathroom, and with nice soap dishes, you will be able to give a very nice touch to your shower!

  1. Easy to use

Using solid shampoo is easy as pie! Just pass the bar directly over damp hair (3 or 4 strokes are enough!) To apply a little shampoo. Lather with your fingers and gently massage the scalp. Be sure to rinse thoroughly. You can repeat as needed. Drain the shampoo well and store it in a dry place (not near the shower or bath tub).
